December 17, 2002:

Everywhere I go it's the same question: 'so are you guys still playing, or what??!?' Yeah. What gives? Well, I'm trying to figure that out myself. Like most other bands in Minneapolis and elsewhere, the Lyndales have been plaqued by lineup changes and the like. Bassist/cellist Griffin Woodworth left to go to UCLA two years back, and other than flying in to do a gig with local faves, Alva Star, he's been pretty invisible as of late. Former Domo Sound bassist, Matthew Freed, was filling in for a lot of the post lo-fi pop gigs (not that there were a lot), but he is currently up to his ears in schoolwork and a new gig at Mastermix... Plus - and this is purely from my stream-of-consciousness rambling - his talents were wasted on the Lyndales. Matt has some serious original sound going on! And since yours truly laid down the bass lines on the album... well... I do keep it simple and to the point. Perhaps Matthew will appear on future Lyndales recordings as himself?? That would be cool.

Okay, so where does that leave us? As most of you know, I ran off over the winter to pursue love and leisure in beautiful Australia, and that is pretty much what ground the band to a halt. Brent has come into his own in a big way - writing some great material and using his voice a lot more. Look for a Minneapolis gig at the Fine Line in October from him (Oct. 19, I thinks). That's left Jonathan Townsend (JT) and I to hash out some musical ideas in what little spare time we have. We were recently visited by bassist Michael Tricarico, who sat in on the Aussie version of the Lyndales when I was in Melbourne, and we spent two great evenings recording some material in JT's basement. This includes a little gem of a song called 'Little California' which had been bouncing around in my bean for over a year. I'll be posting the tune as soon as I can... honest. All humility aside, this song really rocks my world.

Stay tuned. Get on the mailing list. Keep listening. Lots of shit is going to go down in 2003. Just you wait.
